The Tongnan Grand Buddha Temple Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a cultural tourism destination.

The Grand Buddha Temple Scenic Area is located at the northern foot of Dingming Mountain in the western suburbs of Tongnan City, on the southern bank of the Fu River. The site preserves 126 niches containing 928 Buddhist and Taoist cliff carvings from the Sui, Tang, Song, Ming, Qing dynasties, and the Republican era, along with 87 inscribed stelae and poems carved by scholars and literati throughout history, 31 sculpture and inscription records, and 21 couplets in diverse calligraphic styles. It features the world’s largest indoor gilded Buddha statue, the ancient “Seven-Eave Buddha Pavilion” — the earliest structure to use an all-glazed roof, “Stone Staircase Musical Sound” — one of China’s four great ancient echo buildings, the country’s largest “Sky-Supporting Buddha Character,” the rare natural echo wall “Sea Tide Sound,” as well as eighteen scenic wonders including “Autumn Moon over Emerald Screen,” “Yellow Silk Canopy,” “Hand-in-Hand Stone Peak,” “Hundred Immortals Cliff,” “Appreciation Pavilion,” “Thousand Buddha Cliff,” “Fairy Cave,” “Scholars’ Study Platform,” “Lotus Pond,” “Eagle-Frog Rock,” “Saber Rock,” and “Cloud Cliff Flying Glow.”
