Dingming Mountain—Canal Scenic Area

The Dingming Mountain—Canal Scenic Area is the collective name for the tourist attractions in Tongnan County. It was designated as a municipal-level scenic area of Chongqing in 1999. Located within Tongnan County, it lies approximately 150 kilometers southeast of Chongqing and 286 kilometers northwest of Chengdu, covering an area of 70 square kilometers. It encompasses the Great Buddha Temple Scenic Spot, Yang Angong’s Mausoleum, — Mausoleum, Shuangjiang Ancient Town, and the artificial canal, among others, with a total touring area of about 20 square kilometers. The Great Buddha Temple Scenic Spot features the “Eight-Zhang Golden Immortal,” the largest gilded cliff-carved Buddha statue in China, the “Heaven-Touching Buddha Character,” the largest cliff-carved Buddha script, the “Great Buddha Main Hall,” one of the earliest ancient buildings in China to use full glazed tiles, and the “Stone Steps and Musical Sound,” one of China’s four ancient echo architectures. Shuangjiang Ancient Town is a national historical and cultural town, home to well-preserved residences of — and Yang Angong, as well as clusters of Qing Dynasty-style buildings. The artificial canal scenic area is the longest of its kind in Southwest China, stretching 15.5 kilometers, and features attractions such as a riverside dam, a pollution-free vegetable base, and a ten-li peach blossom forest.
