The Yang Family Residence, a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit, is one of the most well-preserved, large-scale, and distinctive Qing Dynasty residential buildings in southwestern China. It has been praised as a “national treasure” by the famous Chinese architect Liang Sicheng. The residence exhibits high academic and cultural value in both its design and construction, and is considered a classic example of Qing Dynasty residential architecture, earning the title “Museum of Qing Dynasty Residences.”

Tianba Courtyard, also known as the Yang Family Residential Land, is located at No. 85 Zhengjie, Shuangjiang Town, and is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit. Facing south and backed by the north, it features a large central hall, 51 rooms and halls, 108 doors, and over 300 intricately carved and exquisitely inlaid large lattice windows and latticed vents, with painted beams and carved rafters that look freshly painted. The building covers a construction area of 2,616 square meters. On either side of the backyard, there is a small garden, and the residence is surrounded by high walls. Outside the walls lies a lotus pond covering more than 3 mu of land. The total area is about 10 mu. Since the site was originally a large expanse of fertile farmland, it is commonly known as “Tianba Courtyard.” The courtyard faces south and is built against the north, featuring a single-eave, hanging-hip roof wooden-structured quadrangle-style building. It was the residence of Yang Shoulu, the wealthiest man in Shuangjiang, and was first built in the fourth year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1878), taking 12 years to complete and finishing in the Gengyin year of Guangxu (1890). It has a history of over 110 years and boasts high scientific, historical, and artistic value.
