Tongnan Yuwang Palace

Yuwang Palace is a cultural relic protection unit of Chongqing Municipality.

Yuwang Palace is located at No. 43 Shuangjiang Ancient Town Main Street. Built in the early Qing Dynasty, it faces northeast and is arranged in a three-courtyard, compound-style layout, covering an area of 12,216 square meters with a built-up area of 2,556 square meters. In the late Qing and early Republican periods, the building was repurposed as a school. It retains structures such as a stage, side galleries, the main hall, and the rear hall, all of which remain well-preserved. Nearby, the Temple of Guan Yu to the southeast and the Temple of Zhang Fei to the northwest were also built in the early Qing Dynasty. The Temple of Guan Yu was rebuilt in the 20th year of the Guangxu reign and features both hip-and-gable and flush-gable wooden structures. Its bracket arms and struts are adorned with intricately carved and gilded openwork designs, while the window lattices and column bases are finely engraved, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship and high ornamental and cultural value. These features earned unanimous praise from delegates at the National Symposium on Vernacular Architecture. Numerous scenes from the TV dramas "Ling Tangyuan" and "Footprints of Hometown" were filmed here. In 2009, it was designated as part of the second batch of cultural relic protection units in Chongqing Municipality.
