Haikou Century Bridge

The Century Bridge is located on the northern extension of Longkun North Road in Haikou City, spanning the mouth where the Haidian River meets the sea. The total length of the bridge is 2,683.585 meters, with the main bridge stretching 636.60 meters. The main bridge is a double-tower, double-cable-plane, three-span continuous prestressed concrete side-main girder cable-stayed bridge. The main towers are diamond-shaped, standing 106.9 meters tall, and the two main towers support the deck via 176 stay cables. The main bridge deck is 29.8 meters wide, with sidewalks on both sides and six lanes of traffic in both directions. The highest navigable clearance under the main bridge is 24 meters at high water level, allowing passage for ships up to 3,000 tons.

The Century Bridge is currently the largest, most technologically advanced, and most challenging bridge project in Hainan. Its technical sophistication and construction difficulty also rank among the top of similar bridge types in China. Construction began on May 29, 1998, and took five years to complete, with a total investment of 667 million yuan.

The Haikou Century Bridge stretches across the Haidian River like a resting dragon. With its comprehensive functionality and unique design, it has become an important tourist attraction and a landmark of Haikou. The construction of the Century Bridge met the needs of urban expansion and the development of the city’s transportation network. According to provincial planning, it will eventually serve as a central hub connecting three coastal cities and two counties in northern Hainan, forming a key part of the 110-kilometer coastal urban corridor in the region.
