Lady Xian, from Gaozhou, Guangdong, was the wife of Feng Bao, the Prefect of Gaozhou during the Southern Dynasties. She once led troops to pacify the Li people in Hainan and later petitioned the imperial court to establish Yazhou, restoring direct ties between Hainan and the Central Plains. She actively worked for the benefit of the people, introducing planting techniques, developing production, and enabling the local populace to live in peace. To commemorate her achievements in safeguarding national unity and promoting ethnic solidarity between the Li and Han peoples, a temple dedicated to Lady Xian was built later in Xinpo Town, Longhua District.

In 1989, the Memorial Hall of Lady Xian was built on the site of the original Lady Xian Temple and opened to the public. Covering an area of 283 square meters, the memorial hall features a dignified design and a majestic presence. Its roof is double-eaved and covered with golden glazed tiles, giving it a splendid appearance. The main entrance is adorned with large plaques inscribed with “Heroine,” “Elegance of Lingnan,” and “Exemplary Virtue Through the Ages,” which are particularly eye-catching. Inside the main hall, there is a life-sized painted portrait of Lady Xian, dressed in ceremonial robes and radiating vitality. In front of the portrait are placed an incense table, an eight-immortal table, and a floor-standing incense burner, while ancient weapons of eight kinds are displayed on both sides. Temple fairs and the military slope festival are held here annually, attracting lively crowds.

Lady Xian (522–602), of the Li ethnic group from southern Guangdong (currently Shandong Village, Diancheng Town, Maoming City, Guangdong Province), was the tribal leader of the Lingnan region during the Liang, Chen, and Sui dynasties, historically known as Lady of Qiao State.

Lady Xian was a leader widely supported by various ethnic tribes in the region. She devoted her life to ethnic unity, fostering integration and cooperation among peoples, and promoting social progress and economic prosperity. She was an outstanding stateswoman and military strategist, and a beloved leader of the people of Guangnan at the time.
