Xitian Temple

Xitian Temple is a cultural heritage site protected by Hainan Province.

Xitian Temple is located at No. 75 Yixing Street, Xinhua District, Haikou City. It was built to commemorate Wang Zuo, a renowned scholar from Hainan during the Ming Dynasty. A native of Lingao County in Hainan, Wang Zuo was an outstanding student of Qiu Jun, well-read and immensely talented. However, he struggled to find recognition in his official career. For over 20 years after entering government service, he remained stuck in the positions of Tongzhi (deputy prefect) in Gaozhou Prefecture, Shaowu Prefecture, and Linjiang Prefecture. He passed away at the age of 85, leaving behind poetic and literary works. The temple complex consists of a main hall with three sections. There is a courtyard between the first and second sections, and a worship pavilion between the second and third. The structure is flanked by east and west wing corridors on both sides, covering a total area of 1,193 square meters. The entire temple complex is built with a brick-and-wood structure, featuring single-tier dougong (bracket sets), carved beams, painted rafters, exquisite craftsmanship, and a grand scale.
