The Bunchi Hainan Eld's Deer Nature Reserve is located in Bunchi Town, Baisha Li Autonomous County. Established in October 1976, it covers an area of 357.8 hectares at an elevation between 127 and 170 meters. It is a provincial-level nature reserve primarily dedicated to protecting the Hainan Eld's deer and its ecological environment. The main animals found in the reserve include the Hainan Eld's deer, Hainan rabbit, python, pangolin, red junglefowl, and Hainan partridge.

The Bunchi region is the native habitat of the Hainan Eld's deer. The area hosts 101 families, 284 genera, and 374 species of vascular plants, including 151 species preferred by the deer, making it an ideal location for their reproduction. Records of the Bunchi Hainan Eld's deer date back to 1521, and prior to 1936, they were distributed across nearly all suitable habitats on the island. However, as human settlements expanded and due to excessive hunting and poaching, the population dwindled to fewer than 30 individuals province-wide, leading to its classification as a Class I nationally protected animal—referred to as a “rare treasure.” In the early 1990s, the Hainan Bunchi Provincial Nature Reserve was restored, and 18 Eld's deer were captured from the wild in Datian, Dongfang, and brought to Bunchi for breeding. After years of conservation efforts, the deer population has increased to nearly 300.

Bunchi Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Baisha Li Autonomous County. It was established as the Bunchi Township in 1935, upgraded to a commune in 1958, and became a town in 1987. Situated in the northwestern part of the county, it lies 52 kilometers from the county seat, covers an area of 127.5 square kilometers, and has a population of 9,000. It is the starting and ending point of the Bunchi–Nanxun Highway, and National Highway 225 passes through it. The town administers six village committees: Nanban, Bunchi, Dizhi, Mengguo, Bangxin, and Damai. Local township enterprises include forestry harvesting and fruit processing. The main agricultural products are rice, along with sugarcane, cassava, sweet potatoes, corn, and peanuts.
