Solitary Beauty Peak

Solitary Beauty Peak is located within the Jingjiang Prince City in the center of Guilin and is a famous scenic peak in the city. Climbing to the top offers panoramic views of the urban landscape, and the ancient stone inscriptions from various historical figures on the mountain are also a highlight. Notably, the world-renowned phrase “Guilin’s scenery is the finest under heaven” originates from an inscription at the foot of the peak.

Behind the bedroom area of the Jingjiang Prince City lies Solitary Beauty Peak. The peak rises abruptly, shaped as if carved by knife and axe, surrounded by other peaks, standing proudly like an emperor. The steps up the peak are steep, with large rises and narrow treads, offering little room to rest. On the southern face of the mountain, three Chinese characters for “longevity” (寿) align vertically in a straight line. The topmost character is said to have been bestowed by Empress Dowager Cixi, with clear strokes and an ethereal touch.

In addition, there are many stone inscriptions along the way, such as “Pillar of Heaven,” but the most famous is undoubtedly the line “Guilin’s scenery is the finest under heaven” from a poem by Wang Zhenggong, an official of the Southern Song Dynasty. Once you reach the summit, you can look down upon the surrounding peaks and the Jingjiang Prince City below, making it one of the best viewpoints for an aerial view of Guilin. Reaching the top also brings a sense of openness and grandeur.

Beneath Solitary Beauty Peak lies Taiping Rock, originally named “West Rock.” The Jingjiang Prince Gonghui discovered a copper coin called “Taiping Tongbao” inside the rock, which he took as an auspicious omen, leading to the renaming of the site as “Taiping Rock.”

April to October. During this period, Guilin enjoys mild weather, abundant rainfall, and plenty of sunshine.

Transportation Guide

Bus

1. Take bus routes 1, 22, 30, 99, or 100 to the 【Luequn Intersection】 stop on Zhongshan Middle Road in the city center, then walk 50 meters east.

2. Take bus routes 10, 11, 14, 18, or 98 to the 【Liberation Bridge】 stop on Jiefang East Road in the city center, then walk 100 meters north.

Tips

1. The scenic area has strict management. All ticket holders are issued a guide number badge, which is required for entry. Due to instances of ticket evasion through side entrances, ticket checks may also occur inside the scenic area.

2. The Imperial Examination Hall offers interactive performances where visitors can participate in a mock imperial exam. If you “pass,” tipping is optional. If you don’t mind, you can also try some traditional liquor.
