Ancient Mugu Cave, Quanzhou

Ancient Mugu Cave is a grand canyon located in Daxijiang Town, Quanzhou County. The cave boasts abundant water resources and is rich in mineral deposits such as lead, zinc, and tungsten.

Inside the cave, visitors follow ancient stone paths while enjoying the murmuring streams. Outside the cave entrance, to the left stands the Nine Dragon Ridges (also known as the Nine Ridges), and to the right lies the Pyramid Ridge. A massive horizontal rock blocks the cave mouth like a gateway to a peach blossom paradise. Just a few dozen steps inside, on the right side of the cliff, a stone dog hangs upside down as if guarding the Yao people’s homeland. The Ladder Mouth Waterfall plunges like a cascading river, and the Green Hill Entrance reveals ancient mining tunnels reminiscent of guerrilla warfare. Further ahead stands the ancient stone gate of the old fortress (in front of the gate), flanked by sheer cliffs above and a deep abyss below—solid and impregnable.

Ancient Mugu Cave is situated at the foot of the Yuecheng Mountain Range. Outside the cave entrance, to the left stand the Nine Dragon Ridges (also known as the Nine Ridges), whose nine ridges resemble nine dragons descending from the sky. To the right lies the Pyramid Ridge, whose mountain shape resembles a pyramid, with a flat area appearing midway up the slope. Legend has it that this was created when the Buddha of Longevity used his divine powers to scoop earth from the mountainside in an attempt to block the canyon entrance for a sacred purpose, and traces of this act remain visible.
