The Yangshuo Cultural Heritage Landscape Garden is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Yangshuo Cultural Heritage Landscape Garden has been certified under the ISO14001 international environmental management system. Originally transformed from the Riverside Park, it boasts a history of over 1,400 years. Nestled to the west against Bilian Peak, beside the Li River to the east, stretching from Yangshuo Wharf in the north to Yangshuo Ferry in the south, the garden features breathtaking scenery and stands as a representation of Yangshuo’s landscape and a symbol of cultural heritage.

Transportation to the Attraction: Within Yangshuo County, take an express bus from Guilin Bus Terminal to Yangshuo. The fare is about 15 RMB, and the journey takes approximately one hour.

Scenic Spots within the Garden

The Landscape Garden is located at the eastern foot of Bilian Peak in downtown Yangshuo. Just a few minutes’ walk from the county town to the Li River Wharf, it not only offers picturesque landscapes but also houses numerous cultural relics. At the Yangshuo Li River Wharf, you’ll find the massive calligraphy character “带” (Dai) (which actually contains sixteen big characters: “一带山河，举世无双。少年努力，万古流芳。” or “A belt of mountains and rivers, unparalleled in the world. Strive in youth, and your virtue will last forever.” Can you spot them?)

The Yangshuo Landscape Garden was originally the Riverside Park and has a history of over 1,400 years. It was renovated into a “Scenic Path” in 1965, turned into the “Riverside Park” in 1983, and renamed the “Landscape Garden” in 1995.

The Yangshuo Landscape Garden lies to the east of the Li River, to the west of Bilian Peak (Yangshuo’s premier peak), stretches from Yangshuo Wharf in the north to Yangshuo Ferry in the south.

The Landscape Garden combines exquisite natural landscapes and is traversed by an ancient path with hundreds of years of history running from north to south. Major attractions include: Yingjiang Pavilion, Eight Scenic Windows, Jianzhen Memorial Hall, Ancient Path Stele Forest, Scenic Plank Walk, and the Exotic Stone Museum.

The park is famed for its scenic path inscribed with calligraphy from literati through the ages and has been listed as a key cultural relic protection site.

Key scenic spots in the garden include: Yingjiang Pavilion, Eight Scenic Windows, Jianshan Tower, Jianzhen Memorial Hall, Ancient Path Stele Forest, Scenic Plank Walk, Waterfall Streams, and the Exotic Stone Museum.

The park is renowned for its scenic path engraved with famous historical inscriptions, featuring over twenty stone carvings of various sizes. It was designated as a key cultural relic protection unit in 1981. The inscriptions include the famous verse by the patriotic figure Wu Mai of the Republican era: “Guilin’s landscape tops those of the world, and Yangshuo surpasses Guilin,” as well as the gigantic cursive character “带” (Dai) by Wang Yuanren, the magistrate of Yangshuo during the Qing Dynasty. This character flows like clouds and dragons, and hides a four-character poem within it: “A belt of mountains and rivers, unparalleled in the world. Strive in youth, and your virtue will last forever.” The masterpiece never fails to amaze visitors from around the globe.

Tourist Destination

The Landscape Garden is located on the eastern foot of Bilian Peak in downtown Yangshuo, encircled by the picturesque Li River. Celebrated as a “garden within a garden” for its harmonious blend of stunning landscapes, historical relics, and treasured artifacts, it has attracted dignitaries throughout history. From eminent figures such as the Tang Dynasty Buddhist master Jianzhen, poet Cao Ye, and traveler Xu Xiake, to modern leaders including Premier Zhou Enlai and Marshal Chen Yi, numerous notable guests have visited and left behind a wealth of poetic inscriptions and calligraphy.

Scenic Overlook: Stroll along the tree-lined scenic path to gaze down at the Li River flowing around the area, view the naturally formed waterfalls and streams up close, and climb Yingjiang Pavilion to enjoy spectacular views of morning mist, sunrise glow, sunset, misty rain, and fishing boats.

Treasure Appreciation: The park’s Exotic Stone Museum and other displays showcase rare flowers, potted plants, rockeries, and top-grade stones.
