Longmen Shuiyan

Yangshuo Longmen Shuiyan is located over ten kilometers southeast of Yangshuo (county town), and is a world-renowned large underground river crystal cave. Starting from Yangshuo county town, pass by the Big Banyan Tree and Moon Hill, then arrive at Longmen Village—Shuiyan. At the cave entrance, there is a lake spanning about 300 square meters. The cave is about eight kilometers long, traversing eight large mountains, with four passages. The cave is over 100 meters high, has five levels of chambers, and features caves within caves.

There are no lights inside the cave. Wear a safety helmet, carry an emergency lamp, and get on a boat to enter the cave while crouching low. Although Shuiyan lacks artificial lighting, the emergency lamps illuminate the cave, allowing you to closely observe and even touch its natural, authentic features—including lotus thrones, Golden Mountain, Silver Mountain, Snow Mountain, Flaming Mountain, terraced fields, pools, the Nine Heavens Waterfall, and a mud bath area. You can first enjoy a “mud bath” and then take a refreshing shower in clean water.

The temperature inside the cave remains around 23 degrees year-round, cool and pleasant. After getting out of the boat, the path is steep with many slopes, some areas are extremely low and require crouching. Many parts are difficult to navigate. According to local villager guides, the cave system is enormous—you could walk for hours and still not see it all. It’s a true caving adventure.
