The Three Pools of Liugong

Liugong is located on the western bank of the Li River along the new tourist route “Liu Sanjie Water Park” from Yangshuo to Puyi. Built along the river, the village features many ancient residences. By the village lies an ancient building called “Deri Tower,” and behind the village are three pools—Green Pool, Bluish-Yellow Pool, and Muddy Pool—whose waters never dry up year-round. Local legends tell the origins of these pools.

The Three Pools Park has been developed into a comprehensive park that integrates natural landscapes, cultural attractions, folk customs, and entertainment, offering all-around services for visitors. It mainly includes residential accommodations, entertainment rooms, a wonder-stone palace, a cultural relics exhibition room, an observation pavilion, a fishing area, the Yingqiu Palace, folk performances, a swimming pool, and a snack bar. In ancient times, there was a local landlord who was extremely harsh to his servants and maids. To punish the landlord severely, an immortal descended to earth and prophesied to the servants and maids that the next morning two bamboo shoots (which were actually dragon horns) would sprout from beneath the incense table in the main hall. The immortal instructed them to break off the shoots and then flee immediately. The servants did as told, and the dragon’s body began to roll, causing the landlord’s house to sink into the ground. The main house, kitchen, and stable sank separately, forming three deep pools—one with clear water, one slightly murky, and one muddy. The landlord’s married daughter, who heard the news and rushed back, also sank into the ground. Her husband arrived later on horseback, but a bird cried out: “Leave the lord, not the lady—turn your horse around and go back.” The son-in-law then reined in his horse and left, escaping with his life. The story spread widely, and thus these three pools came to be known as the Three Pools of Liugong.

Transportation

Located in Fulizhen, Yangshuo County, 13 kilometers east of the county town, it can be reached by boat along the Li River.
