Grape Mountain

Known as the "World Peak Forest," the Yangshuo Grape Mountain Scenic Area features continuous towering peaks that create a spectacular sight. “Guilin abounds in caves, as if they were celestial dwellings; the surrounding land is flat, while thousands of peaks rise straight into the sky.” The “World Peak Forest” remains hidden year-round along the Guiyang Highway near Putao Town.

It is said that “Grape Mountain” got its name from the abundant sour grapes once produced there. The mountain features a cave called “Guanyin Cave,” with winding and deep passages, where stalactites take on various shapes, including a naturally formed statue of Guanyin. The cave offers a uniquely adventurous feel with its twisting, mysterious paths. Above ground, the mountain is covered with lush trees and ancient vines that run throughout, some of which are remarkably thick. Legend has it that there were once only seven poor families and one rich family living on this mountain, with the poor constantly exploited by the wealthy. One day, a poor family brought back a grapevine cutting from elsewhere and, together with several other poor families, carefully cultivated it, hoping to change their impoverished lives through growing grapes. Their efforts moved the gods, who transformed the single grapevine into a mountain covered with grapes. The rich man, feeling envious and upset, chopped down the grapevine one night. To this day, remnants of the ancient tree’s roots can still be faintly seen inside Guanyin Cave.
