Moonwater Rock Cave

Moonwater Rock Cave is the largest and most famous underground river cave in Yangshuo. The cave stretches approximately 6 kilometers, passing through 8 mountains, featuring bizarre stalactites and crystal-clear basins scattered throughout. At the cave entrance, you can boat for about 300 meters, as well as wade, swim, dive, catch fish and shrimp, and even enjoy a mud bath in a large mud pool—perfect for becoming a carefree child again and recapturing your lost innocence.

Moonwater Rock Cave is the grandest, most spectacular, and most adventurous of Yangshuo’s underground river crystal caves, retaining its most pristine state. It is located at Pingtang Village at the end of Yangshuo’s Ten-Mile Gallery and represents the finest part of the Gaotian rural scenery, about 2 kilometers from the Moon Hill scenic area. Its entrance is round like a full moon, hence the name “Moonwater Rock Cave.”

At the cave entrance, a clear spring cascades down from a height of over 20 meters, forming a spectacular waterfall reminiscent of a water curtain cave. There is also a lake covering about 600 square meters where you can boat for around 300 meters, swim, or take part in water activities such as diving from a 3-meter platform, crossing a rope bridge, or drifting on the water. You can enter the cave by boat, by wading, or via a land route.

Inside the cave, there are six levels of chambers, with caves within caves all interconnected. The underground river flows through nine mountains. The water is incredibly clear, and the cave is dotted with crystal basins and underground waterfalls. The vast stalactites inside resemble an underground palace, with their fantastical shapes creating breathtaking views. Enter through one cave mouth and exit through another without backtracking. The journey covers about 3 kilometers and takes approximately one and a half to three hours or more. Natural seabed mud bath area.

The mud is fine, smooth, and free of any impurities, evenly spread in a thick layer across the pool. Rub it gently between your hands, then softly massage it onto your face, or simply smear it on however you like. Have fun, and when your friend isn’t looking, sneakily stick your muddy hand out—let out a scream, then burst into mischievous laughter. Sneak peeks at each other as you all become unrecognizable, hardly human, almost ghostly. Once you’ve had enough fun, head to the natural 15-meter-high waterfall at the cave entrance for a refreshing, invigorating shower—an experience like no other.

Transportation

The cave is located in a small village about 1.5 kilometers from Gaotian Town in Yangshuo. Tickets are sold at the Moon Hill scenic area, with a shuttle service transporting visitors the 3.5 kilometers to the Moonwater Rock Cave entrance.
