The clear, rippling waters of Swallow Lake are nestled within vast stretches of green fields, resembling a maiden’s tender gaze full of emotion. Weeping willows line the lakeshore, gently brushing the water's surface. A giant water-powered wheel creaks as it turns, grinding the passage of time while singing the ancient ballads of the countryside. In the distance, emerald-green mountains rise, villages are veiled in mist, fields crisscross the landscape, and houses are scattered about, resembling the idyllic pastoral scene described by Tao Yuanming — “where fragrant grass is fresh and flowers fall in profusion,” “with fine fields, beautiful ponds, mulberry trees, and bamboo groves.” Taking a boat ride on Swallow Lake is undoubtedly a delightful experience.
