Goule Cave Scenic Area

Goule Cave Scenic Area is located 3 kilometers east of Beiliu City, at the foot of the main peak of Goulou Mountain, beside the Yumian Highway (National Highway 324). It borders the Gui River to the south and lies 25 kilometers from both Yulin and Rongxian. Covering an area of 204 hectares, it is a provincial-level scenic spot.

Goule Cave is known in Taoist texts as the “Twenty-second Grotto-Heaven” among China’s “Thirty-Six Grotto-Heavens.” It consists of five caves: Baogui, Yuque, Baisha, Taoyuan, and Yujin. Two large mountains connect these five caves in a single line, stretching over 1,500 meters. The caves feature naturally formed twists, turns, penetrations, and skylights, with crisscrossing stone pillars, stalagmites, and a variety of uniquely shaped stalactites that create ever-changing, spectacular sights. Illuminated by colorful lights, the formations become even more mysterious and enchanting. In front of the caves are pavilions, carved beams, painted rafters, swaying green trees, and winding paths, all set against the backdrop of Moon Lake. The stone walls are adorned with numerous inscriptions, including masterpieces by the Tang Dynasty general Li Jing, poems by the Southern Song anti-Jin general Li Gang, and authentic works by the modern literary giant Guo Moruo and his wife Yu Liguo, totaling over 120 pieces. These add significant artistic charm to Goule Cave. In recent years, under the leadership of the municipal party committee and government, Goule Cave Scenic Area has undergone tremendous changes. It has expanded from being solely a cave exploration destination to include numerous attractions outside the caves. New additions feature a mountaintop pavilion, highland waterfalls, lakeside corridors, plaza fountains, fish-viewing ponds, the Fairy Music Palace, Dragon Palace Adventure, as well as a zoo, snake park, and Goulou Temple. There are also 50 water-based recreational activities and attractions suitable for both adults and children. The area welcomes nearly 700,000 visitors annually and has become a comprehensive tourism destination in southeastern Guangxi, offering dining, accommodation, sightseeing, and shopping. Like a dazzling jewel, it radiates vibrant splendor across the land of southern China.
