Nanning Daming Mountain Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Daming Mountain range stretches 68 kilometers in length and 23 kilometers in width, spanning across four counties: Wuming, Shanglin, Mashan, and Binyang. It is located 76 kilometers from downtown Nanning. The Tropic of Cancer runs through the center of the mountain, which has an average elevation of 1,200 meters, and its main peak, Longtou Mountain, rises to 1,760 meters, making it the highest peak in central and southern Guangxi.

Daming Mountain

Daming Mountain earned its name from the phrase “lush greenery after rain, layered peaks, and vibrant scenery,” and is hailed as a “marvelous mountain of Lingnan and a heavenly paradise on earth.” Due to its complex terrain, unique climate, significant temperature variations, and rich biodiversity, the area boasts boundless and diverse natural landscapes. “Spring flowers, summer waterfalls, autumn clouds, and winter snow” epitomize the seasonal scenery of Daming Mountain.

Daming Mountain is a national nature reserve, primarily protecting its diverse mountain forest ecosystems and rare, endangered, and endemic flora and fauna. The reserve covers a total area of approximately 17,000 hectares, with a forest coverage rate of 98.9%, earning it the nickname “the green pearl on the Tropic of Cancer.” The average annual temperature on the mountain is 15°C, with no intense summer heat—the average temperature from May to September is around 20°C. Recent measurements show that the mountain’s air is rich in negative ions, with concentrations reaching or exceeding 1,000 ions/cm³, averaging 70,000 ions/cm³, and peaking at 190,000 ions/cm³, truly making it a “natural oxygen bar.”

The mountain’s exceptional ecological environment has made it a destination for those seeking to reconnect with nature and rejuvenate. Historical records indicate that during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period (907–960), monks and Taoist hermits retreated here, some even earning imperial purple robes for their spiritual attainment. Since ancient times, local legends have told of mortals entering the mountain and attaining immortality or extraordinary longevity, adding a layer of mystique to the mountain. Residents around Daming Mountain are known for their health and longevity. Preliminary statistics show that among the 1.644 million people in the three surrounding counties (Wuming, Mashan, and Shanglin), there are 3,188 individuals over 90 years old and 172 over 100 years old, averaging 10.46 centenarians per 100,000 people—exceeding the United Nations’ “longevity village” standard of 7.5. In recent years, Daming Mountain has been honored with titles such as “Nanning’s Most Recreational and Health-Oriented Scenic Spot,” “International Eco-Tourism Demonstration Base,” and “China’s Famous Health-Preserving Mountain.” In 2009, it was rated as a “National AAAA-Level Tourist Attraction.”

The region surrounding Daming Mountain is an important birthplace of Zhuang culture. At the southern foot of the mountain, in Matou Town, Wuming County, lie the renowned Shang and Zhou dynasty tomb clusters of the Yuanlongpo site and the Warring States tomb clusters of the Andengyang site. Research suggests that the earliest capital of the ancient Luoyue Kingdom, established by the ancestors of the Zhuang people, was located at the southern foot of Daming Mountain. The Dragon Mother culture, widely spread across the Pearl River Basin, also originated in the Daming Mountain area.
