Yongjiang Bridge

Yongjiang Bridge is the first bridge built over the Yongjiang River in downtown Nanning. It was completed and opened to traffic on July 15, 1964, putting an end to the ferry service on this section of the river. It is one of China’s earliest urban bridges designed using the closed thin-walled member theory, featuring a cantilevered reinforced concrete box-type thin-wall structure.

The bridge is a T-span cantilevered reinforced concrete box-type thin-wall structure, with single cantilever beams of 45 meters at both ends, five central spans each measuring 55 meters, and double cantilever beams with 23-meter intermediate suspended spans. The total length of the bridge is 394.6 meters, and its width is 2×3+18 meters. The upper structure’s cross-section consists of two independent three-cell box girders. The two box girders are supported by simply supported slabs on the cantilevers of the box girders. Rigid continuous diaphragms are installed at the piers, while the remaining diaphragms are simply supported to carry gas and water pipelines. The substructure features an embedded abutment on the north bank and a U-shaped abutment on the south bank.
