Golden Lotus Mountain is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Golden Lotus Mountain Scenic Area is a national nature reserve, located about 16 kilometers northwest of Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County in Laibin City, Guangxi. It covers an area of approximately 23 square kilometers. The main peak, Nengduo Peak, stands at an elevation of 1,350 meters. With its numerous towering peaks, the entire mountain resembles an unopened lotus flower when viewed from afar, hence its name.

The Golden Lotus Mountain Scenic Area boasts convenient transportation, stunning scenery, majestic grandeur, crimson peaks against azure waters, red cliffs surrounded by green trees, spring-like weather all year round, and picturesque views. Coupled with sea of clouds, azalea forests, and ancient trees, it forms a breathtaking and dreamlike spectacle. In 2006, it was rated as a national AAA-level tourist attraction, and in 2010, it was officially approved as a national AAAA-level tourist attraction by the National Tourism Attractions Quality Rating Committee, becoming the first AAAA-level attraction in Laibin City.

The climate in the Golden Lotus Mountain Scenic Area is cool and pleasant, with no air pollution and fresh air. Measurements show that the negative ion content in the air exceeds 65,960 per cm³, averaging 9,194 per cm³. The concentration of atmospheric pollutants is 5 to 10 times lower than the first-grade standards set by the Ambient Air Quality standards, making it a true natural oxygen bar. To wander in such a heavenly, otherworldly realm is truly a rare delight.

The geology and landforms of Golden Lotus Mountain represent a rare natural ecological system of quartz sandstone peak forest landforms. Its characteristics include deep valleys, steep cliffs, towering peaks, age-old majesty, and a display of both the grandeur and elegance reminiscent of China’s Five Great Mountains, as well as the layered peaks, jagged rocks, and surreal landscapes seen in places like Wuyi Mountain and Zhangjiajie. What makes it even more unique is how the mountains blend seamlessly with pristine forests, mountain streams, valleys, sea of clouds, sunrises, and mystical mists. The clouds shift rapidly, sometimes gathering, sometimes dispersing — when gathered, they envelop the peaks, creating a hazy and delicate beauty; when dispersed, they drift like gauzy veils through the mountains, revealing the peaks’ stunning faces. When a gentle mountain breeze blows, the mist dances and rises, offering visitors the wonderful sensation of shifting scenes with every step. For this reason, Golden Lotus Mountain is said to embody the “steepness of Mount Hua, the mists of Mount Heng, the curious rocks of Yandang Mountain, the enchantment of Zhangjiajie, the cool serenity of Mount Emei, and the vast wildness of Mount Huangshan” all in one magical landscape.

The stone forest landscape of Golden Lotus Mountain is diverse and uniquely charming. From the viewing pavilions, you can observe a variety of formations including stone stalagmites, stone peaks, stone pillars, stone curtains, as well as formations named after vivid shapes such as Guanyin Sitting on a Lotus, Camel Climbing the Mountain, Golden Rooster Announcing Dawn, Fairy Gate, Immortals’ Bridge, One-Line Sky, General Rock, Divine Eagle Protecting Treasure, Chessboard Mountain, and Lion Seeing Off Guests. These formations are incredibly lifelike, breathtakingly beautiful, and leave visitors enchanted and reluctant to leave.

Among the stone forest, one particularly eye-catching sight is the “Panguan Ascending the Hall” formation. Panguan is the legendary ancestor of the Yao people and is deeply revered by them. During the annual Panguan Festival, Yao people gather to worship. Panguan is depicted wearing royal robes as he ascends his hall to celebrate the festival with his descendants. The Yao people have built temples and the Wangyi Pavilion on Golden Lotus Mountain to enshrine and honor their heroic ancestors, praying for blessings and good fortune from Panguan.

Between elevations of one thousand meters, Golden Lotus Mountain features open terrain. From February to May each year, the mountains burst into a riot of wildflowers covering the slopes. Varieties include short-stemmed azalea, gorgeous azalea, Guangxi azalea, Guizhou azalea, hairy cotton rose, red rock azalea, Beijiang azalea, mountain peach blossoms, and Michelia figo (from the Magnoliaceae family). The blooms come in red, yellow, white, light purple, and light pink — a veritable explosion of colors. Due to variations in altitude, soil, and climate, the flowers bloom at different times. Nestled along the undulating mountain ridges, these blossoms grow either rooted between rocks or nestled beside cliff crevices, forming clusters and bunches that embellish Golden Lotus Mountain, making it even more extraordinarily beautiful, dreamy, and enchanting.
