Pengshan, historically known as Penghuashan (encompassing Dapeng Town and Guo'an Yao Ethnic Township), is located at the southern foot of the Dayao Mountain range, at the northernmost end of Pingnan County. Surrounded by mountains and dotted with lofty peaks, it features beautiful scenery with clear waters and lush greenery. Here you’ll find the spiritually rich Langshi Mountain and the towering Luo Heng Peak that reaches toward the southern heavens; there’s the majestic Daxi Mountain and the imposing Yapo Lansun Mountain. Not only is the area blessed with stunning natural beauty, but it also has a glorious historical and cultural heritage: it is the hometown of Liang Song, the top scholar of the Southern Han Dynasty; it is the birthplace of the Taiping Rebellion, home to the “Twelve Kings and Twelve Generals” including Zanwang Meng De’en; and it was also the site of the “Joint Office of the Peasant Associations of the Seven Districts in Wuxuan, Pingnan, and Guiping Counties” during the Great Revolution, making it one of the two major centers of peasant movement in Guangxi at the time (the other being Donglan, alongside Penghua). For these reasons, Pengshan has long been celebrated as a place of “extraordinary land and exceptional people”!

It is the extraordinary peaks and beautiful waters of Pengshan that have created its uniquely splendid natural scenery; it is the area’s rich history and culture that have given rise to numerous scenic spots and cultural landmarks, bestowing upon Pengshan an awe-inspiring and boundless charm. Since this land once nurtured Liang Song, the top scholar of his generation, and its natural scenery bears similarities to Zhangjiajie, some have even suggested calling this place “Liangjiaview.” However, as early as 1998, a television feature titled “Scenery of Pengshan” had already gained widespread circulation.
