Langshi Mountain

The large rocky mountain behind Shadong Village in Dapeng Town is called Langshi Mountain. Climbing this mountain and gazing to the south, the entire Penghua area comes into view, truly giving one the feeling of “looking out over the vast land with clouds beneath one’s feet.” Halfway up the mountain lies a cave called “Zhuangyuan Rock.” According to legend, during the Southern Han Dynasty, Liang Song studied in this cave and eventually became the top scholar. It is also said that the sound of him grinding ink in the cave was so powerful it shook the capital. Since ancient times, people have believed this mountain to be spiritually endowed, hence naming it “Langshi Zhongying” (Langshi Showcasing Talent), and listing it as one of the Eight Ancient Scenic Spots of Pingnan. Throughout history, many poets and scholars have visited here, leaving behind numerous poetic verses and elegant phrases. Most of these are collected in the *Langshi Poetry and Couplet Collection*.

Zhuangyuan Rock is also known as “Tongtian Cave,” a cave that leads straight to the mountaintop. Legend has it that this is where Liang Song rode his cloud-steed up to the heavens on his way to the capital. If you look toward Daxi Mountain from afar, you can see an image of a flying horse soaring upward on the high cliffs of the mountain. It is said to be the eternal marvel left behind when Liang Song first rode his cloud-steed to the capital.
