Benhuan Temple

Benhuan Temple was built to commemorate the 109th birth anniversary of the eminent Buddhist master Benhuan, and is the first temple in China named after a contemporary eminent monk. Located within the AAAA-level scenic area of Sanshui Forest Park in Foshan, it is 30 kilometers from Guangzhou and 50 kilometers from Baiyun Airport. Surrounded by mountains and facing a lake, the temple enjoys clear waters and verdant hills, with a planned total area of 300 acres. It will eventually include Benhuan Temple (new site), the Sanshui Grand Buddha, the Benhuan Academy Novice Monastery, and a meditation center.

The temple complex consists of core axial structures including the Mountain Gate, the Heavenly King Hall, the Mahavira Hall, the Scripture Depository, and the Dharma Hall, along with auxiliary buildings such as the Dining Hall, Guest Hall, Kṣitigarbha Hall, Guanyin Hall, Monks’ Quarters, Abbot’s Building, and Dharma Propagation Building. The currently open Mahavira Hall is grand and majestic, enshrining the Three Saints of Huayan.

Benhuan Temple was initiated by the eminent Buddhist master Benhuan and further developed by Venerable Yinshun, Vice President of the Buddhist Association of China and Abbot of Hongfa Temple in Shenzhen. It is set to become the “Lotus Land of the Buddha” in the Guangzhou-Foshan region.
