Shuanglong Cave Scenic Area

Shuanglong Cave is located at the foot of Longshan Mountain in Yulao Town and is a limestone karst cave from the Carboniferous period of the Paleozoic era. The cave runs through the mountain, with springs inside, caves above, caves below, and interconnected passages. In narrow sections, it’s just wide enough for a person to pass through, while in wider areas, it opens up into grand chambers. The total length exceeds 200 meters and is roughly divided into nine cave chambers, ranging from 3 to 12 meters in width and 5 to 15 meters in height. Stalagmites, stalactites, stone lions, stone dragons, stone Buddhas, stone owls, stone grapes, and more—each exquisitely shaped and abundantly displayed—create over 30 colorful and spectacular landscapes. Among them, the most fascinating is the Dragon Palace beneath the cave, where two stone dragons appear to swim and roar in the emerald water, as if ready to take flight, leaving visitors in awe. The cave gets its name from this scene. Wu Mengzhao, former Secretary of the Fengkai County Party Committee (now Deputy Secretary of the Guangzhou Municipal Party Committee), inscribed the scenic name “Twin Caves Hiding Dragons,” and Wu Nansheng, former Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, also wrote the name of the cave. Bai Shiyan Cave faces Shuanglong Cave across the mountain, with its entrance over 30 meters above the ground, exuding an impressive presence. Covering a total area of more than 2,000 square meters, the cave is 20–30 meters high, with a mysterious layout and distinct layers. Corridors, chambers, raised platforms, and deep courtyards are arranged in an engaging fashion. Stalactites loom ahead, creating ever-changing views as you move through the space, with countless postures. Under the illumination of colored lights, the scenes appear both lifelike and dreamlike: Buddha halls and imperial palaces, lofty pavilions with flying eaves, carved beams and painted rafters; immortal mountains and royal gardens, exotic flowers and rare plants shrouded in mist; the cave ceiling opens into the vast sky, where cranes glide and phoenixes dance, dragons rest on clouds. With over 70 landscapes, there are both bold and bright creations as well as delicate and exquisite pieces. Major attractions include “Zhaojun Leaving the Frontier,” “Scenes of the South,” “Moon Palace,” “Cloud-Reaching Pagoda,” “Fairy Longing for the Mortal World,” “Eight Immortals Celebrating Longevity,” “Lantern Festival Gathering,” “Jinshan Temple Flooded by Water,” and “Jade Pool Fairyland.” Among these, “Jade Pool Fairyland” is particularly magnificent, featuring stalagmites in a myriad of graceful forms that glisten under the lights. A pool of spring water reflects the scenery, enhancing the breathtaking view and leaving visitors in wonder.
