Daliang Palace in Fengkai

Daliang Palace in Fengkai is a cultural heritage site protected at the Guangdong Provincial level.

The Ming-era Daliang Palace is located in Fuxue Village, Yulao Town, Fengkai County. Its original construction date is unknown, but it was rebuilt in the 13th year of the Chenghua reign during the Ming Dynasty (1477). The palace is a brick-and-timber structure with a single-eave hip-and-gable roof, featuring a gently sloping roof and slightly upturned eaves. It is five bays wide and five bays deep, with an overall width of 15.48 meters and an overall depth of 14.8 meters. The wooden framework combines both mortise-and-tenon (chuandou) and post-and-lintel (tangliang) techniques, using early construction methods such as crescent beams (yueliang) and forked braces (chashou). The five-rafter beam is built using the post-and-lintel method, while the seven-rafter beam and purlins use the mortise-and-tenon technique. Eave columns extend with a tenon to support the overhanging purlin, and each beam joint is fitted with an auspicious bracket set (ruyi dougong) to bear the load. The horizontal beam is equipped with forked braces, and components such as the lower gold purlin have supporting blocks (tuojiao). All wooden beams are shaped into crescent beams, and the wooden columns are slightly tapered at both ends. The column bases are in the form of inverted lotus petals. On the purlin plate beneath the main purlin, there is an inscription reading: “On the auspicious day of the 12th of December in the 13th year of the Chenghua reign of the Great Ming (1477), the Year of Dingyou.”

In 1979, the Fengkai County Revolutionary Committee designated it as a cultural heritage site.

On July 17, 2002, the main hall of Daliang Palace was included in the fourth batch of Guangdong Provincial Cultural Heritage Sites.

Yulao Town: Located in the central part of Fengkai County, Yulao Town is about 50 kilometers from Jiangkou Town, the county seat. It serves as the political, economic, and cultural center of central Fengkai and is one of the first group of central towns in the province. The town covers a total area of 118 square kilometers, with a population of approximately 21,000. It administers nine village committees, one community residents' committee, and a total of 181 villager groups. The mountainous area spans 112,000 mu, and the cultivated land area is 15,900 mu, including 13,800 mu of paddy fields.
