Snake Yongshan Tomb

The Snake Yongshan Tomb is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Snake Yongshan Tomb is located in the northwest suburbs of Jiangkou Town, Fengkai County, to the west of Dalong Mountain. A total of three Han Dynasty tombs were excavated here in 1972 and 1983. Tomb No. 1 and Tomb No. 2 face 290°, are about 20 meters apart, and are at the same elevation. Tomb No. 1 is an earthen pit tomb, measuring 4.1 meters in length and 2.6 meters in width. The coffin and skeletal remains inside the tomb are no longer present, but a 10-centimeter-thick layer of charcoal was found at the bottom of the tomb. Tomb No. 2 is a single-chamber brick tomb with a vaulted ceiling (and has been looted), yielding only one silver ring and some fragments of glazed pottery. Tomb No. 3 is a rectangular earthen pit tomb, oriented at 320°, measuring 3.5 meters in length, 2.5 meters in width, and 3.5 meters in depth. It has a two-tiered platform at the bottom, each tier being 15 centimeters wide and 20 centimeters high.

The burial objects unearthed from Tombs No. 1 and No. 2 include a total of 51 items made of copper, iron, silver, glassy material, carbonado, and pottery. These include bronze mirrors, Huoquan (coin of the Xin Dynasty), broken ironware, a silver ring, beads, carbonado ornaments, and Wu Zhu coins. Pottery items consist of earthenware workshops, grain storage pits, and stoves; glazed pottery includes tripods, three-legged cauldrons, long-necked ring-footed bottles, bowls, cups, bean-shaped vessels, well pavilion covers, pots, and jars. The glaze colors are bluish-green, mostly flaked off, with decorative patterns such as ripple designs, double-line grid patterns, string patterns, incised lines, and comb-tooth patterns. The 18 burial items found in Tomb No. 3 include a bronze stove, bronze cauldron, three-legged bronze cauldron, Wu Zhu coins, and an iron knife. Pottery items include three-legged tripods, three-legged cauldrons, long-necked pots, wine cups, pouring vessels, boxes, pottery houses, and pottery granaries. There are also a number of pottery fragments, identifiable as two urns and two double-handled straight-bodied jars.
