Xiangyin Confucius Temple is located on the pedestrian street in Xiangyin County, Yueyang. Having undergone multiple cycles of decline and revival, the current structures were rebuilt in the ninth year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1744). The complex consists of the “Jade Resonance & Golden Sound” Soaring Archway, the Pan Pond, the Number One Scholar Bridge, the “Supreme Harmony & Vital Force” Archway, the Grand Gate, the Dacheng Hall, and side rooms. It is a well-preserved county-level Confucius Temple with exquisite architectural artistry and a unique style.

Originally built in the eighth year of the Qingli reign during the Northern Song Dynasty (1048), around the same time as Teng Zijing’s renovation of Yueyang Tower, Xiangyin Confucius Temple underwent more than ten rounds of repairs, expansions, and reconstructions across various dynasties. By the first year of the Xianfeng reign in the Qing Dynasty, it had achieved “magnificent scale and beauty, surpassing all others south of the lake.” The entire temple complex features a unique style, exquisite craftsmanship, grand momentum, and a simple yet majestic presence. The Number One Scholar Bridge is situated in front of the temple, spanning the “Pan Pond.” According to the customs of the imperial examination era, those who attained the highest honors were permitted to ride their horses across the bridge. On either side of the bridge, the southern side features the “Awe-Inspiring Reverence” Archway, while the northern side has the “Supreme Harmony & Vital Force” Archway. In ancient times, civil officials were required to dismount from their sedan chairs, and military officers had to dismount from their horses upon reaching these points. Both archways are constructed with stone mortise joints, intricately carved entirely from granite blocks, exhibiting unique designs and exceptional craftsmanship that inspire awe. As a base for traditional Chinese culture and patriotic education, Xiangyin Confucius Temple holds significant tourism value and stands as one of the best-preserved Confucian temples in Hunan. It was listed as a Provincial Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 1983, underwent major restoration in 2009, and was designated as part of the seventh group of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units on May 3, 2013.
