Qujialing Culture City Site

The Chengtoushan Qujialing Culture City Site is located in Nanyue Village, Chexi Township, Lixian County. It was discovered in 1979, and after three excavations between 1991 and 1993, it was confirmed to have been built during the middle period of the Qujialing Culture.

The city has a circular layout, with parts of the city wall still standing, reaching a remaining height of 2–3 meters and a base width of 25–37 meters. Beneath the entire city wall lies a large Daxi Culture-period moat and wooden bridge structure that predates the wall by 1,000–2,000 years. In the moat’s silt, complete wooden paddles and wooden components with a push-willow structure were found, along with dozens of crop seeds such as rice, beans, and hard-shelled nuts, as well as the remains of more than 20 types of animals including elephants, pigs, and cattle.

Chexi Township: A township under the jurisdiction of Lixian County. Established in 1950 as Chexi Township, it was renamed Luyang Commune in 1958, changed to Chexi Commune in 1961, and reverted to a township in 1984. Located in the central part of the county, it is 10 kilometers from the county seat. Covering an area of 40.8 square kilometers with a population of 27,000, the township government is stationed in Chexihe. Provincial Highway 1868 runs through the western part of the township, and there are roads leading directly to the county seat.
