Former Residence of Tang Xizhi

The former residence of Tang Xizhi is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Hunan Province.

The former residence of Tang Xizhi is located in Sanping Village, Sanguansi Tujia Ethnic Township. It was listed as a provincial-level cultural heritage site in 2011. Due to years of neglect and lack of timely maintenance, the house was in urgent need of repair, which garnered high attention from the higher-level cultural heritage authorities, leading to the implementation of a restoration project. The project was carried out specifically by the County Cultural Relics Bureau, with completion expected in September 2017. Alongside the restoration, a new 60-meter road was constructed to connect Zhao-San Road, linking S305 and S306 highways, making it another attraction along the eastern tourism route.

Tang Xizhi, courtesy names Yisi and also Xichi, was a native of Sanguansi, Cili, Hunan. He was born in 1887 during the 13th year of the Guangxu reign in the Qing Dynasty. He served as a soldier in the 41st Battalion, 21st Mixed Brigade of the Hubei New Army, later rising from deputy squad leader and squad leader to platoon leader. He participated successively in several revolutionary groups organized by Jiang Yiwu, including the Qunzhi Study Society, the Zhenwu Study Society, and the Literary Society.

Sanguansi Tujia Ethnic Township: Sanguansi Tujia Ethnic Township is located in the western part of Cili County, adjacent to the world-famous Wulingyuan Scenic Area. It covers an area of 114 square kilometers, with 22,000 mu of arable land and 85,000 mu of forested land. The township has a total of 25 directly affiliated units, 26 administrative villages, and 1 forest farm run by the township government. The total population is 24,000, with Tujia people accounting for 75%.
