Yuping Yunding

Yuping Yunding. Located on Longshan Mountain in the northeast of Xinshao County, Yupingding is said to be as high as Mount Hengshan (Nanyue), and its summit is often shrouded in sea of clouds, hence the name “Yuping Yunding.” This mountain boasts a majestic presence, with undulating peaks covered in lush greenery and rugged cliffs. To the north are Lion Stone and Immortal Stone, while Zengji Ridge unfolds with crimson cliffs, where white clouds brush the mountaintop; in front of Feishui Cave, a silver waterfall hangs in midair, scattering like snowflakes and flying blossoms. To the south are Yangqi Fort and Ximao Ridge, featuring scenes such as Lion and Elephant Locking the Water. To the west lie Crow Pond, Cat Cave, and Azure Dragon Bridge, each with its own unique charm. The Qing Dynasty scholar Yan Zhiwang wrote a poem titled “Climbing Yupingding”: “I climb straight up to the highest peak, where winding paths lead to the summit. Twin streams cascade down waterfalls, while layers of mountains are veiled in chaotic clouds. People soar like roc birds through the sky, monks dwell beyond the mortal world in misty clouds. Looking back, I’ve conquered every step of the heavenly ladder, only to hear the noon bell upon reaching the gate.”
