Huayuan Biancheng Water Conservancy Scenic Area is a national water conservancy scenic area.

Huayuan Biancheng Water Conservancy Scenic Area is located in Biancheng Town, Huayuan County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province. It was built based on the comprehensive flood control project of the Qingshui River section of the Huayuan River.

The scenic area is a natural river-lake type water conservancy scenic area, with a total area of 4.46 square kilometers, including 1.75 square kilometers of water surface. It features beautiful natural landscapes, profound historical and cultural heritage, numerous attractions, and simple local customs. The area is characterized by distinctive natural landscapes such as forests, rivers, and islands, with a high level of resource integration and good ecological conditions. The famous novel *Border Town* by Shen Congwen and the ethnic culture of the Miao people add rich humanistic charm to the scenic area. Since 2004, the Huayuan County Party Committee and County Government have taken the opportunity of creating a national water conservancy scenic area to integrate advantageous resources, build the “China’s Border Town” tourism brand, enhance the landscape appeal, and have successively invested over 50 million yuan. This has led to the completion of riverside residential restoration, Cui Cui Island, the Hundred Calligraphers’ Garden, the ancient ferry, and other attractions along with supporting service facilities, steadily improving the infrastructure.
