Hubei Modern Agriculture Exhibition Center

The Hubei Modern Agriculture Exhibition Center was established in November 2007 with the approval of the Provincial Organization Establishment Office. It is a directly affiliated public institution at the division level under the Hubei Provincial Department of Agriculture. The Hubei Modern Agriculture Exhibition Center (abbreviated as the Agriculture Exhibition Center) is located in the Wuhu Ecological Park in Huangpi District, Wuhan City. It borders the Yangluo Economic Development Zone to the east, faces the Yangtze River to the south, and looks across the river to the Wuhan Iron and Steel Group. To the west is the Tianxingzhou Yangtze River Bridge, situated between the middle ring road and the outer ring road of Wuhan’s urban area, covering an area of 66.7 hectares. The center was initiated by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Agriculture, and jointly built by the Hubei Provincial Department of Agriculture and the Wuhan Municipal People’s Government.

It regularly conducts exhibitions of new agricultural varieties, technologies, and breeds, having showcased over 1,000 new varieties in total, including more than 870 crop varieties, 82 fruit varieties across 16 categories, 16 types of aquatic fish species, and 3 pig breeds. In particular, the exhibition of sweet waxy corn, rice, and new cotton varieties has achieved remarkable results. The center successfully hosted the “2009 China (Wuhan) Spring Fresh Sweet Waxy Corn Variety Exhibition” and the “Hubei Province Mid-season Rice and Cotton New Variety Exhibition and Observation Conference.” Over 500 breeding experts and distribution representatives from more than 20 provinces (municipalities and regions) across the country visited for observation and study, achieving excellent promotional and extension outcomes. This also helped showcase the positive image of Hubei’s agriculture and laid a solid foundation for establishing a first-class science and technology exhibition brand in Central-South China.

Its main functions include: showcasing new agricultural varieties, technologies, and models; providing practical training for agricultural colleges and universities; and offering business guidance for the province’s exhibition system. The park covers an area of 1,000 mu (approximately 66.7 hectares), with construction starting in 2005. It now consists of eight specialized exhibition areas and one comprehensive training base, serving two major public functions: agricultural science and technology demonstration and talent training. It is recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture as the core area of the National Modern Agriculture Demonstration Zone.

The eight specialized exhibition areas include: seeds, aquaculture, horticulture, fruit, facility agriculture, circular agriculture, wild plants, and agricultural machinery. They enable the centralized display of new varieties, technologies, models, and mechanisms in industries such as crop farming, animal husbandry, aquaculture, agricultural machinery, rural energy, and agricultural environmental protection, thereby promoting the application of agricultural scientific and technological achievements in Hubei and innovation in agricultural management.

According to Zhu Jinshui, Director of the Hubei Provincial Department of Agriculture, the Hubei Modern Agriculture Exhibition Center focuses on crops as the main thread, varieties as the core, and production needs as the orientation. It regularly displays over 1,100 new varieties, more than 30 new models, over 50 new technologies, and 5 new mechanisms, while recording and observing over 400,000 data points. Under its demonstration and driving effect, cities, counties, and districts have successively established more than 100 agricultural science and technology parks, 550 township-level science and technology demonstration sites, and 340,000 science and technology demonstration households at the village and group levels. The total area of agricultural science and technology demonstration parks (zones, sites) across the province has reached 2.8 million mu. Through this four-tier demonstration platform, it not only provides a basis for agricultural technology extension, clarifies the direction of leading varieties, but also makes cultivation management more scientific, transforms expert yields into practical farmer applications, and refines the cultivation techniques of many new varieties. The yield-increasing potential of new technologies is further realized, strongly supporting the stable development of agriculture across the province and the continuous increase in farmers’ incomes.

Since the opening of the provincial Agriculture Exhibition Center two years ago, it has received high attention from the Ministry of Agriculture, the provincial Party committee, the provincial government, the Wuhan municipal Party committee, and the Wuhan municipal government. Central Political Bureau member Sun Zhengcai, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Ahtyamov Abudurexiti, Jiang Zhuping, member of the 14th and 15th Central Committees of the Communist Party of China, CPPCC Standing Committee member Chen Yaobang, former Vice Ministers of Agriculture Yin Chengjie and Fan Xiaojian, current Vice Ministers of Agriculture Wei Chao’an, Zhang Taolin, Niu Dun, Gao Hongbin, Chief Economist Chen Mingshan, former Chief Veterinary Officer Jia Youling, and provincial and municipal leaders such as Luo Qingquan, Li Hongzhong, Miao Wei, Yang Song, Song Yuying, Zhang Chang’er, and Li Xiansheng have all inspected the center and fully affirmed its construction and exhibition work. More than 30 countries’ agricultural officials, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, renowned domestic and international experts and scholars, agricultural enterprises, and farmers have visited the center in over 400 groups and more than 30,000 person-times for inspection, guidance, and exchange. This has further enhanced the center’s visibility both domestically and internationally and expanded the influence of Hubei, a major agricultural province, nationwide.

Comprehensive Training Base: It serves as a venue for comprehensive agricultural talent training, offering both theoretical teaching to enhance students’ knowledge and practical training to improve their hands-on skills.
