The Former Site of the Wangjiabang Anti-Japanese Base is world-renowned due to the nationally shocking "Xiajiashan Incident." In September 1939, the diehard faction of the Kuomintang provoked civil war and orchestrated the "Xiajiashan Incident," during which over 300 Communist Party members and revolutionary masses in Huanggang were brutally killed, while the main force of the Eastern Hubei Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Advance Team successfully broke through the encirclement. The Central County Committee of the CPC in Huanggang led part of its forces to relocate to the lakeside area of Wangjiabang, where they established the Wangjiabang Anti-Japanese Base. In 1940, the Wangjiabang Anti-Japanese Base set up the Huanggang County Anti-Japanese Democratic Government, which led the masses, organized production, and supported the New Fourth Army in carrying out guerrilla warfare behind enemy lines. Huanggang became a strategic stronghold and bridgehead for the Fifth Division of the New Fourth Army as it advanced eastward into the border region of Hubei and Anhui, and pushed into southern Hubei.

The Wangjiabang Anti-Japanese Base is located at the northernmost tip of Tuanfeng County, bordering Xinzhou County to the west. Before liberation, the Jidong Dyke had not yet been built, and this area was a lake district. Across the Ju River lies the Zhangdu Lake, along with the Mayi Lake, where vast expanses of reeds grew, forming a natural reed marsh that provided an ideal external environment for this revolutionary sanctuary. Today, the Wangjiabang Anti-Japanese Base has become a revolutionary tradition education base for primary and secondary school students in our county, and many visitors come here spontaneously to pay their respects and tour the site.
