The Aijiayu Site

The Aijiayu Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Hubei Province.

The Aijiayu Site is located in Aijiayu Village, Dongfangshan Township, Xiashilu District, Huangshi City. It is a site dating back to the Neolithic Age and the Western Zhou Dynasty. Covering an area of approximately 10,000 square meters, the cultural layer is 1.2–2.6 meters thick. Slag is scattered across the surface. Stone axes and pottery shards have been collected. The Neolithic pottery shards are mainly made of clay-red pottery, followed by sand-tempered red pottery, with decorations such as cord marks, appliqué stacking patterns, and string patterns. The vessel forms include tripods, jars, basins, plates, as well as pottery paddles and spinning wheels. The Western Zhou pottery shards are predominantly sand-tempered red pottery, followed by clay-grey pottery, with a small amount of sand-tempered brown pottery. The decorations include cord marks and appliqué stacking patterns, and the vessel forms include li tripods and dou stem cups.
