Former Site of Daye County Central Committee
The former site of the Daye County Central Committee is a cultural relic protection unit of Hubei Province.
The former site of the Daye County Central Committee is located at Jin Gong Ancestral Hall in Nanshan Village, Yinzhu Town, Daye City.
After the failure of the Great Revolution, revolutionary forces in the Daye area suffered severe setbacks, revolutionary organizations were badly damaged, and the Communist Party of China (CPC) was forced to operate underground. The focus of the Party’s work shifted from urban to rural areas.
In May 1928, the Hubei Provincial Committee of the CPC dispatched special envoy Wu Zhimin to the Yangxin (Xin)–Daye area to guide work, instructing the rapid development of Party organizations and the mobilization of armed peasant struggles. At that time, grassroots Party organizations had been restored in all districts of Yangxin County, and the revolutionary situation in Daye County was also flourishing. With approval from the Hubei Provincial Committee, the CPC Yangda County Committee was dissolved, and the CPC Yangxin County Committee and the CPC Daye County Special Branch were established respectively. The CPC Daye County Special Branch was headquartered in the Nanshan Tou area, with Shi Lijin serving as secretary. In August, the Hubei Provincial Committee strengthened its leadership over the Party organizations in Yangxin and Daye, dissolving the Daye Special Branch and establishing the CPC Daye County Committee. The CPC Daye County Committee oversaw four district committees and 11 branches, with nearly 100 Party members. The committee was headquartered in Nanshan Tou, with Xu Ce serving as county Party secretary. In October, the Daye County pistol squad was established at Jin Gong Ancestral Hall, with Yu Lijin as captain and over 20 members.
In February 1929, following the directive from the CPC Central Committee to center efforts around Daye, the Hubei Provincial Committee established the CPC Daye County Central Committee at Jin Gong Ancestral Hall in Nanshan Tou, leading revolutionary struggles in Daye, Yangxin, Tongshan, Echeng (now Ezhou), Huangmei, Guangji (now Wuhan’s Wuxue), Qichun, and Qishui (now Xishui) counties. Wu Zhimin served as secretary of the central committee. In June, the Daye County Central Committee held a meeting at Jin Gong Ancestral Hall in Nanshan Tou, formulating plans for an armed uprising. On June 30, under the leadership of Wu Zhimin, committee member Xu Ce, and pistol squad captain Liu Quansan, nearly ten thousand young peasants from various parts of Daye, Liuliju in Echeng, and Sanxikou in Yangxin gathered in Liurenba Village and successfully launched the Liurenba Armed Uprising. As revolutionary armed forces continued to grow, in July, the CPC Daye County Central Committee decided to establish the 12th Army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army, based on the Yangda Guerrilla Brigade and incorporating local Red Guards and other armed groups. In September, under the leadership of the CPC Daye County Central Committee, the first red political power in Daye—the Daye County Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Committee—was established at Jin Gong Ancestral Hall.
After its establishment, the Daye County Central Committee consolidated and developed the revolutionary base centered on Nanshan Tou, providing direction for the county’s revolutionary struggles and actively promoting the rapid advancement of revolutionary movements in southeastern Hubei.
The former site of the Daye County Central Committee was originally a local ancestral hall of the Hu family, built in the late Ming Dynasty, covering an area of 200 square meters, and is now relatively well preserved. In the 1990s, the Daye Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government constructed commemorative facilities nearby, including the Daye Nanshan Tou Revolutionary Memorial Hall and Monument.
In March 2008, the former site of the Daye County Central Committee was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Hubei Province by the Hubei Provincial People’s Government.
