Shangfeng Village is located in Jinhu Subdistrict, Daye City. Since the late Yuan Dynasty, the villagers have revered nature and cherished feng shui. Everywhere you look, there are centuries-old houses, ancient trees, tombs, wells, ancestral halls, stone tablets, old roads, ancient ditches, and old mills—earning it the reputation of the “Nine Antiquities Village.” There are over a thousand ancient trees aged a century or more, the oldest camphor tree being over 500 years old; there is also a gingko tree over a thousand years old, hailed by the botanical world as the “King of Chinese Gingko.”

The village currently has over 40 ancient houses that blend the architectural styles of Huizhou and Jiangxi, while also incorporating local customs and creativity to form a unique southeastern Hubei architectural style: the exterior walls are mostly rectangular in plane, enclosed with hollow half-brick walls; from above, black tiles and white walls create a high, enclosed wall structure, with staggered wall lines and double-sloped roofs half-hidden behind layers of horse-head walls, their upturned eaves serving both fireproofing and windproofing purposes. Their wooden through-tenon beam frames feature various intricately designed front eaves, rich in beauty and variety. Moreover, the beauty of the “Three Carvings”—blue brick door covers, stone-carved lattice windows, and wood-carved pillars—is truly breathtaking.

The Feng Clan Ancestral Hall, built during the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty, backs onto Luer Mountain. It is 72 feet wide and over 238 feet deep. “Its form is like an old-time bellows used in iron forging—the deeper it is, the stronger the bellows’ force, the fiercer the fire, symbolizing the flourishing prosperity of future generations,” said Feng Yingpu, Party branch secretary of Shangfeng Village.

Nowadays, the people of Shangfeng have attracted over 90 million yuan in investment to build the Shangfengwan Ecological Tourism Area around the “Nine Antiquities”—ancient trees, ancient wells, ancient houses, ancient tombs, and more. They strive to fuse the inheritance of family culture with modern culture, synchronize the protection of the ancient village with new rural construction, and build a beautiful Shangfengwan.
