The Yuefei City Ruins are a cultural relic protection unit of Hubei Province.

Yuefei City Ruins — A key cultural relic protection unit of Hubei Province. Located 8 kilometers north of Wulipu Town and south of Yaquepu on National Highway 207, the site is rectangular in shape, stretching 2 kilometers from north to south and 1.5 kilometers from east to west. According to historical records, in the fourth year of the Shaoxing era (1134 AD) during the reign of Emperor Gaozong of the Song Dynasty, Yue Fei was ordered to resist the Jin invaders and once established a fortress here. Yue Fei’s army was stationed here for eight years, hence the name “Yuefei City.” In recent decades, cultural relics such as stone axes, stone chisels, bronze swords, bronze halberds, bronze mirrors, and iron hoes have been unearthed at the Yuefei City Ruins.

Yue Fei (1103–1142), courtesy name Pengju, was a native of Tangyin in Xiangzhou (present-day Henan), and an outstanding military strategist and tactician of the Northern Song Dynasty.

Yue Fei’s father, Yue He, and mother, Lady Yao, were generations of farmers. In his youth, Yue Fei studied archery and spear techniques under Zhou Tong and Chen Guang, becoming the most skilled martial artist in the county. However, due to poverty, he later went to Xiangzhou (present-day Anyang), where he “worked as a farmhand for the Han Weigong (Qi) family, making a living through farming.”
