Wild Horse River

The Wild Horse River is located in the central part of Shennongjia, stretching 10 kilometers in length. Its riverbed is dotted with rocky shoals, and the water flows swiftly yet remains crystal clear—it is the home of the Chinese giant salamander. Winding through the area, you’ll find yourself surrounded alternately by drifting white clouds, swaying willows, sheer cliffs as if carved from stone, seemingly impassable mountain paths, and then suddenly, a burst of verdant scenery. There is no trace of pollution here—just the fresh scent of forest grass mingling with a hint of riverine aroma. Without needing much time, you’ll come to understand the ancient sages' sentiment that "the benevolent find joy in the mountains, and the wise find joy in the waters."
