Xiaolongtan is located within the Shennongding Scenic Area and serves as an educational and research base that showcases the unique ecological environment and resources of Shennongjia. It also promotes environmental awareness and eco-tourism knowledge. The site includes attractions such as the "Wild Man" Mystery Garden, a summer camp base for Hubei Province’s youth, a golden snub-nosed monkey domestication center, Xiaolongtan Tea House, and a field research station.

Xiaolongtan is one of the main attractions in the Shennongding Scenic Area. The Shennongding area is situated in the southwestern part of Shennongjia and centers around the well-preserved ecological environment of the nature reserve. Supported by the Three Gorges-Shennong Dual-Gods Route, it features forest ecosystems and biodiversity, and is themed around the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature. It is also a national forestry department-led model ecological landscape zone.

Xiaolongtan has a tea house and a "Wildlife Rescue Center," as well as a summer camping base. Located within the Shennongding Scenic Area, Xiaolongtan is a base for showcasing the unique ecological environment and abundant natural resources of Shennongjia, while also providing education and research on environmental awareness and ecological science.
