Scenic Views of Songluo

The scenic views of Songluo mainly refer to the attractions along the Songluo River in the Shennongjia Forest District. The Songluo River originates from the northern slope of Motian Ridge, with its source hidden deep within Eagle’s Nest Cave. From there, it flows southward in a rushing torrent. Though the river stretches only about 30 kilometers, the elevation drops sharply by 1,200 meters, creating boundless natural beauty. Traveling along the river by vehicle allows you to enjoy the landscape and pristine forest communities, immersing yourself in the wild charm of nature. Along the route, there are eight major scenic spots: Panlong Bridge, Panlong Rock, Ice Cave Mountain, Songluo Water, Jiadao Gorge, Inverted Golden Bell, Shanmu Ping, and Motian Ridge. In ancient times, an anonymous poet was so captivated by the stunning scenery here that he wrote the verse: “Cliffs rise tier upon tier, verdant trees cling to the misty clouds, breath drifts away on the wind, hands reach up to greet the Buddha’s halo atop the peak.” A painter once praised: “Only by ascending Shennong Peak, then visiting Hongping’s Painting Gallery, and finally appreciating the sights along the Songluo River, can one truly grasp the layers, colors, and poetic charm of Shennongjia’s landscapes.”
