City Wall Rock

The City Wall Rock Group was originally called "City Wall Conglomerate." It consists of foothill red sand and gravel deposits, including brick-red and purplish-red sandstones, conglomerates interbedded with mudstones and shales. The upper boundary is unclear, with a total thickness exceeding 3,500 meters. The type section extends from Baishaxi Dam through Lianhuakou, Jianmenguan, Hanyangpu to the southern peak of Jiange County town. From bottom to top, it is divided into the Lianhuakou Formation, Jianmenguan Formation, Hanyangpu Formation, and Jiange Formation. The top of the Hanyangpu Formation contains fossils such as Sichuan Yinnüxingjie, Meihu Yinnüxingjie, Duǎn Yànmài Yinnüxingjie, and Duǎn Dá'ěrwénjiè, suggesting a possible Late Cretaceous age. No fossils have been found in the other formations. Based on this, the Jiange and Hanyangpu Formations are assigned to the Upper Cretaceous, while the Jianmenguan and Lianhuakou Formations are tentatively assigned to the Lower Cretaceous (or possibly the Upper Jurassic).
