Xiangyu Temple

Xiangyu Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Xiangyu Temple Natural Scenic Area is located in Xiagou at the foot of Jian Mountain. It is a naturally formed mountainous landscape. Within the area lies an 8.6-kilometer-long grand canyon (also known as Lovers' Valley), which rises majestically and is extraordinarily spectacular. From upstream to downstream, there are three temples—Upper, Middle, and Lower Xiangyu Temples—built during the Tang and Song dynasties. Legend has it that incense smoke once curled through the air, and the temple was bustling with worshippers and visitors.

Lovers' Forest

The elevation difference between the upper and lower parts of the canyon exceeds 200 meters. During the rainy season, mountain streams and springs rush down, crashing against the banks and rocks. The valley features rugged rocks: some jut out abruptly, while others appear as if hewn by axe or chisel. The banks are covered with dense woods that block out the sun, where vegetation thrives. Some trees form natural centuries-old bonsai, while others stand proudly in the crevices between rocks. Lush, tiered forests of locust trees, resembling stairs, stretch across and blot out the sky, with carpets of green grass growing beneath. Locals call this area “Lovers' Forest” (also known as Happy Forest). It is an excellent place to escape the summer heat.

Mountain Green Waters

Most remarkably, the mountains encircling the canyon are entirely composed of red rock, interwoven with green trees to create a natural ink painting. The variously shaped rocks have given rise to many wonderful legends, such as “Lovers’ Stone,” “Scenic Viewing Stone,” “Echo Wall,” “Two Lions Vying for Supremacy,” and “Yu the Great Splitting the Mountain.”
