Qu Liang Site

The Qu Liang Site is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Era: Neolithic Age, Xia, Shang, Han

The Qu Liang Site is located to the north of Qu Liang Village, Qu Liang Township, Xinmi City, Henan Province, covering an area of approximately 400×600 square meters. The area is hilly with crisscrossing gullies. The site itself sits on flat terrain, with the Qin River flowing around its eastern, western, and northern sides in two branches. In May 2013, it was designated by the State Council as part of the seventh batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units. It belongs to late Longshan Culture and phases two and three of the Erlitou Culture. The site is situated on a highland between Xiao Si River and the Qin River, 25 kilometers east of Xinmi City, north of Qu Liang Village. It stretches 600 meters from north to south and 370 meters from east to west, covering an area of about 22 hectares, with cultural layers 2–4 meters thick. Discovered in 1959, it was excavated jointly in March 1988 by the Department of Archaeology at Peking University and the Zhengzhou Cultural Relics Work Team. An area of 300 square meters was unearthed, yielding 198 artifacts. Pottery items included deep-bellied jars, drum-bellied jars, basins, and wide-mouthed zun vessels. Artifacts from the Erligang period such as li tripods and jars were also collected, along with one Shang Dynasty bronze gu vessel, indicating that the site also contains a small number of Erligang and Shang Dynasty cultural remains. On March 4, 1987, it was designated as a Cultural Relics Protection Unit of Zhengzhou City. In May 2013, it was designated by the State Council as part of the seventh batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
