The Song Family Courtyard

The Song Family Courtyard is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhengzhou City.

The Song Family Courtyard is located about 100 meters north of the Songda Railway, at the eastern end of Dongtou Group, Songzhai Village, Liuzhai Town, in the southeastern part of Xinmi City. Facing south, most of it consists of two-courtyard complexes. According to the genealogy of the Song family, it was first built in the late Ming Dynasty and reached a grand scale by the early Qing Dynasty. Later damaged by war, it is far less magnificent than in its prime, but has been in continuous use by descendants to this day and remains largely intact, with a total construction area of 5,000 square meters. There are currently 13 surviving buildings, consisting of three east-west aligned courtyards and the ancestral hall of the Song family, all designed in the traditional quadrangle style. Among them, the western courtyard and the Song family ancestral hall are the best preserved. It holds certain reference value for the study of ancient architecture.
