Luoyang Baiyun Mountain is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction and a science education base.

Luoyang Baiyun Mountain is located in the heart of the Funiu Mountains in the southern part of Song County, Luoyang City, Henan Province. It is a national forest park, a national nature reserve, a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, and one of China’s Top Ten Leisure Resorts. The scenic area covers a total area of 168 square kilometers and has developed five major sightseeing zones: Baiyun Peak, Yuhuangding, Jijiaoman (Little Huangshan), Jiulong Waterfall, and the Primitive Forest, as well as five major leisure areas: Baiyun Lake, Alpine Forest Oxygen Bar, Alpine Peony Garden, Liuhou Temple, and Luhua Valley.

The Baiyun Mountain scenic area gathers waters from the Yangtze River, Yellow River, and Huai River basins atop a single peak, embodying the spirit of all three rivers in one mountain. This unique feature in the Central Plains has earned it the reputation of being an unparalleled masterpiece of “Central Plains landscape grandeur.”

Baiyun Mountain lies in the transitional zone between the warm temperate and northern subtropical climate zones, with an average elevation of 1,800 meters. Summer temperatures rarely exceed 26°C, and the area boasts abundant animal and plant resources. According to surveys, there are 204 animal species and 1,991 plant species, with forest coverage exceeding 95%. Experts and scholars have praised it as a “natural museum.” There are 37 peaks within the area at elevations above 1,500 meters, among which Yuhuangding Peak stands at 2,216 meters, making it the highest peak in the Central Plains and the best spot for watching sunrises and sea of clouds.

Highlights include the rugged peak landscapes represented by Yuhuangding (the highest peak in the Central Plains), Jijiaoman, and Immortal Bridge; forest landscapes such as alpine azalea woods, vast primeval forests, and Tang Dynasty ginkgo groves; waterfall and pool sceneries like Jiulong Waterfall, Pearl Pool, and Yellow Dragon Well; cultural sites such as Liuhou Temple, Yuhuang Pavilion, Wuman Temple, and Yunyan Temple; and phenological views like sea of clouds at sunrise, evening glow over Jijiao, and golden autumn leaves.

The entire scenic area integrates mountains, rocks, water, caves, forests, grass, flowers, birds, and beasts, with grandeur, danger, wonder, serenity, beauty, and magic shining together. It has become a comprehensive tourism destination in the Central Plains that combines sightseeing, summer retreats, scientific research, and exploration of ancient and mysterious sites.

The Luoyang Baiyun Mountain scenic area features deep forests, serene valleys, and majestic peaks with drifting clouds. Standing in this fairyland, you’ll feel as if “you are wandering in a painting, with clouds floating on the trees and water dancing in the sky.” — During an inspection of Luoyang Baiyun Mountain, [an official] inscribed “Famous Mountain of the Central Plains.” Mu Qing wrote “Baiyun, the most beautiful under heaven,” and the renowned calligrapher Qi Gong penned “Baiyun Mountain, a Fairyland on Earth.”

Travel Time

There are many trains from Zhengzhou to Luoyang, so you can depart at any time. Right across from Zhengzhou Railway Station is the Central Bus Station, where buses to Luoyang are very convenient.

There are many options for getting from Luoyang to Baiyun Mountain:

1. Go directly from Luoyang First Transport Station (opposite the train station) to Baiyun Mountain. The ticket price is 46 RMB per person. Buses depart at 6:30 AM, and then roughly every hour (though the second bus may not run on weekdays from Monday to Friday). There is also a bus at 1:30 PM, with the journey taking about 3 hours.

2. First take a bus from Luoyang to Song County, then transfer to a bus to Baiyun Mountain from Song County. The distance from Luoyang to Song County is 70 km. There are many buses from Song County to Baiyun Mountain, costing around 30 RMB per person to get up the mountain. However, make sure to confirm in advance that the destination is right at the entrance to Baiyun Mountain Hotel—not just the mountain gate (as it is still a very long way from the gate up to the top!).

It is recommended to take the first option, as it is faster, the vehicles are in better condition, the drivers are skilled, and the timing works well—you can rest at noon and then head to Jiulong Waterfall for fun.

To return from Baiyun Mountain to Luoyang, you can also take a luxury bus, which departs daily at 7:30 AM and 1:30 PM from the Central Square.

Transportation

Located in the pristine forest area of the Funiu Mountains in the southern part of Song County, Luoyang City, it can be reached by various means of transportation.

1. Public Transportation:

① Luoyang Bus Station operates one direct bus to Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area at 7:30 AM and 1:30 PM daily. Ticket price: 44 RMB. The journey takes approximately 4.5 hours.

② You can take a bus from Luoyang to Checun. The fare is 31 RMB. Get off at the Baiyun Mountain scenic area junction, then take a local bus or taxi to the entrance.

2. Self-Drive Routes:

① Zhengzhou (Luojie Expressway) → Dengfeng (Zhengshao-Luo Expressway) → Yichuan → Luhun (Song County) → Baiyun Mountain

② Kaifeng → Luoyang → Yichuan → Song County → Luanchuan Heyu Town → Baiyun Mountain
