Dengtaijian Scenic Area

Dengtaijian Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a cultural tourism destination.

Dengtaijian Scenic Area is located in the southern part of Wugang City and got its name because its main peak resembles an ancient lamppost. It is 20 kilometers from the city center, covers an area of 3,333 hectares, and is one of the main scenic areas of the Shimantan National Forest Park.

Dengtaijian

The main peak, Dengtaijian, stands at an elevation of 808 meters, making it the second highest peak in Wugang City. The scenic area boasts picturesque mountains, ancient trees, interconnected valleys, layered peaks, cascading waterfalls, lush forests, and over 96% forest coverage. It is also home to a rich and rare variety of plant species, earning it the reputation of a “forest oxygen bar” and a “kingdom of plants.”

The scenic area features natural canyons such as Guanpingyuan Gully, Jiutian Pool, and Tiger Crawl Gully; the standalone Guanpingyuan Yingmen Pagoda; the Qingtan Valley, known as a forest oxygen bar and natural air conditioner, named after its dominant rare tree species; waterfalls that seem to descend from the heavens, including Tianchi Waterfall, Tianjing Waterfall, Three-Tiered Waterfall, and BayiPo Waterfall; ancient sites covered with towering trees and entwined vines, such as Guanpingyuan Ruins, Monkey Mansion Cave Heaven, Qingtong Gully, and Wangtianhe Valley; caves of various shapes, including Lovers’ Cave, Bat Cave, Immortal Cave, and Horse King Cave, as well as a strange cave that can predict the weather; geological wonders like the primitive seabed; and seasonal blooms of forsythia, mountain peach, apricot, pear, and Henan azalea that vie in beauty, along with vibrant autumn foliage that is redder than February flowers, and winter’s snowy-white world adorned with hanging icicles.

Dengtaijian

Dengtaijian Scenic Area not only boasts abundant natural landscapes but also colorful folklore, legends, and numerous historical ruins, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery while immersing themselves in rich folk culture. The area currently offers three tourist routes, with visiting times ranging from three hours to a full day depending on group preferences. Within the scenic area, visitors can see 111 natural attractions and 35 historical sites, as well as learn about various rare and endangered plants such as Phoebe zhennan, Celtis sinensis, Hovenia acerba, Lindera henryi, Semen Zanthoxyli, Eucommia ulmoides, and Wubeimu. Additionally, guests can enjoy the embrace of the forest oxygen bar and natural air conditioner, making it an ideal destination for urbanites to escape the heat, relax, explore nature, improve health, and reconnect with the great outdoors.
