Xiaogang Site

The Xiaogang Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Henan Province.

The Xiaogang Site is located 400 meters north of Xiaogang Village, Mancun Township, approximately 4 kilometers northeast of Changyuan County. In February 1978, it was designated as a provincial-level cultural heritage protection unit. The site stretches 220 meters from north to south and 120 meters from east to west, covering an area of 26,400 square meters. The terrain is higher in the north and lower in the south, with the central part rising 3 meters above the ground. The cultural layer is relatively thick, and drilling 5 meters deep in the center has not yet reached the bottom. Gray soil is exposed on the surface, and pottery shard samples include vessels such as urns, jars, basins, tripods, bean pots, and pitchers. The decorative patterns feature rope impressions, basket weaves, string lines, and added pile designs, with the pottery mostly being gray in color. The cultural nature of the site spans the Neolithic Longshan Culture, as well as the Shang, Zhou, Spring and Autumn, Warring States, and Han Dynasty periods. Other cultural sites of the same type as the Xiaogang Site include the Sufen, Dagang, Yiqiu, Qinggang, and Gengcun sites.
