China Cuisine Culture Museum

The China Cuisine Culture Museum is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The China Cuisine Culture Museum is the first museum in China themed around culinary culture. Situated in the Food Expo Park of Changyuan City, it was completed and opened at the end of December 2012. The museum exhibits more than 240 cultural artifacts. Its construction not only fills the void of a culinary culture-themed museum in China, but also serves as a “milestone” in the history of cultural development and the culinary industry in Changyuan City.

With a total investment of 50 million yuan, it is the first museum on the Chinese mainland themed around Chinese culinary culture. Covering an area of 5,400 square meters, it occupies the first, second, and third floors of the southern section of the Cultural & Exhibition Center. The museum is divided into five exhibition halls: Hall 1: The Historical Development of Culinary Culture; Hall 2: The Art of Taste in Culinary Culture; Hall 3: The Science of Culinary Culture; Hall 4: The Art of Banquet in Culinary Culture; and Hall 5: The Masters of Culinary Culture. The layout of the museum follows the timeline of culinary history and utilizes high-tech methods such as sound, light, electricity, 3D animation, video playback, and electronic interaction. The exhibitions incorporate scene reconstructions, artifact displays, artistic arrangements, and multimedia presentations to showcase the profound richness of Chinese culinary culture.

Background Information

Changyuan has long been known for its culinary culture, renowned for its large number of chefs and exquisite cooking skills. As early as the Northern Song Dynasty, it had developed five major culinary systems: imperial cuisine, official cuisine, market cuisine, temple cuisine, and folk cuisine, establishing a unique place in the history of cooking. Today, Changyuan chefs can be found all over the world, and the culinary industry has become a significant pillar of the city’s economic development. In 2003, the China Cuisine Association officially designated Changyuan as the “Hometown of Chinese Chefs.”

Honors and Awards

In December 2019, it was awarded the title of “Outstanding County-Level Museum in Henan Province.”
