Former Site of Boji Huimin Hospital

The former site of Boji Huimin Hospital is a cultural relic protection unit of Henan Province.

The former site of Boji Huimin Hospital is located at No. 82 Jiankang Road, Weihui City, within the campus of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical University. It lies to the west of the old Wei River and to the east of the former site of "Huai Salt Field." Built during the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China period, the surviving structures mainly include the Hospital History Museum building, the 1913 Western-style square building, and another Western-style square building. The architecture collectively embodies a blend of Chinese and Western styles, featuring proportions based on Western classical design, masonry structural elements, and traditional-style roofs. It stands as an exemplary model of the transition in Chinese architecture from ancient to modern forms, holding significant importance in the history of Chinese architecture.

The former site of Boji Huimin Hospital also holds an important place in the development history of healthcare in Henan. In 1930 (the 19th year of the Republic of China), Ma Jintang, a medical graduate from Cheeloo University in Anyang, was hired to serve as a surgeon at the hospital. He successfully removed a tumor weighing 80 jin (approximately 40 kg) and also participated in consultations at the Hospital’s Daokou branch, where he performed a mastectomy under rudimentary conditions. These events provide valuable historical insight into the development of healthcare in Henan.

The former site of Boji Huimin Hospital holds immense historical reference value, whether in terms of its architecture, cultural significance, or contributions to healthcare.
