Hangu Stele Forest

The Hangu Stele Forest is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Hangu Stele Forest was built in the autumn of 1988. It stretches 100 meters from north to south and 40 meters from east to west, covering an area of 4,000 square meters, with a total of 62 stone steles. These include not only ancient steles collected from various locations in Lingbao, such as a legal stele from the Song Dynasty, an earthquake stele from the Tang Dynasty, the epitaph stele of Yang Zhongsi (the elder brother of Yang Guifei), and the epitaph stele of Xu Tianguan, the Minister of Personnel from the Ming Dynasty, but also newly carved steles featuring poems and writings about Hangu Pass composed by famous figures and calligraphed by renowned modern and contemporary calligraphers. Examples include a scroll inscribed by Kang Youwei from the Qing Dynasty for the then magistrate of Lingbao, and a stele with calligraphy by the real-life prototype of Li Xiangyang.
